Come From Away Program-With-Purpose • Ages 11-18

Come from Away is the true story of the time when an isolated community in Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001.  Overcoming differences of culture, language and religion, the Gander locals provided an inspirational example of the importance of compassion, kindness and acceptance.

Embracing the Come From Away themes, this Program-With-Purpose will unite youth from the general community and a local refugee organization.  Using the universal language of musical theatre to inspire and be inspired, students will learn about each other and themselves as they get to the heart of the production’s story and music.  Putting those concepts into action, students will work on a community service project benefiting the Tucson refugee community.  At the end of this one-of-a-kind week, students will perform a showcase as they unveil the project and invite the community to look for ways they can pay-it-forward in their own lives.
