SYNOPSIS: Based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher explores how a young orphan ultimately became Peter Pan.Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

Meet the Directors

Mary Dickson, Director

Mary Dickson is currently the Theatre Director at Ironwood Ridge High School. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 2014 as the Outstanding Graduating Senior of the College of Fine Arts, with a major in Theatre Education. Some of her favorite pieces to direct have been The Diary of Anne Frank, Into the Woods, The Crucible, and Mary Poppins. Mary was fortunate enough to win the Best Director award at the 2018 Tucson Starlight Awards for her work directing and choreographing Into the Woods and Crazy For You. Mary is usually seen on stage during Arts-Express productions, so she is thrilled to be off stage taking the reins for Peter and the Star Catcher

Mike Padilla, Music Director

A native of Tucson, Mike has entertained and worked in Tucson, San Francisco and Japan as a cabaret entertainer, pianist, singer, actor, musical director and teacher.  He spent 17 years in San Francisco where he studied acting/singing at Studio ACT and the SF Academy of Performing Arts where he was mentored by Richard Nickol.  As an actor he has played Archie & Dr Craven in The Secret Garden, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, Dr Parker in Bay Boy, Cladwell in Urinetowne to name a few.  Locally, He’s done musical direction for the Invisible Theatre, SALOC, The Gaslight, The Great American Playhouse, UofA’s Arizona Repertory Theatre, Arts Express and CYT. He has been the vocal coach/music director for the Tucson Starlight Awards (Ben Vereen Awards) the last 4 years as well as ATC’s Summer on Stage. Mike was an instructor at the UofA School of theatre for 4 years serving as the staff pianist, vocal coach and musical director. Mike is a member of NATS (Nat’l. Assoc. of Teachers of Singing) and maintains a private voice studio.
