Today, Arts Express coordinated the choirs that provided the National Anthem at all 5 start lines for El Tour. The Rincon/University High School Choraliers under the direction of Mareena Boosamra-Ball sang at the races that started at Armory Park. The Palo Verde High School Concert Choir under the direction of Molly Keck sang around town at the other 3 start sites (see pic below). All sang so beautifully and were REAL TROOPERS for persevering through the inclement weather. Thank you students for giving it your all!
So proud to be one of the El Tour 2013 beneficiaries! Sending out best wishes to all the riders. Stay safe!
Mary Ellen Lansing, one of the founders of Follow the Star, had an eye for detail. As she developed her ideas for costumes, she would make sketches such as the one of Roman soldiers below. Although Mary Ellen has passed on, the beauty of her designs endure with each performance. Experience Follow the Star this year with your family or friends! Tickets are available at www.arts-express.org or by calling (520) 319-0400.
To get Follow the Star started, people pulled what they had from their homes to make the costumes and props. Here's a wonderful picture from 1986, with Jim Cromwell as Melchior and Chris Ashcraft as the Page. Jim and Judy Cromwell used beautiful gold curtains from their home to make the king's robes :)
We do have to admit, there have been a few Follow the Star bloopers! Join us in a few laughs -- and don't forget to get your tickets for this year's performance at www.arts-express.org or call (520) 319-0400.
