Potter and Friend

Whirling wet beneath your gentle hands
I was formed.
A squatty mug with rippled sides,
grey-green, streaked with brown.
Do you still remember me – out of all the others?
Or know the other hands that hold me?
My friend who cups me steaming in his hands
each morning as we warm each other.
My other friend with soft and slender hands
who heals me when I am broken.
Who sometimes carries me to him in the afternoon,
an unexpected gift.
In those moments as their hands touch
we are all friends together.
