Fine Arts Youth Academy is a summer arts program for children in metropolitan
Tucson, Arizona. Sponsored by Arts Express Inc., the Academy provides the opportunity
for exploration and immersion in the fine arts for youth entering grades 4-12.
The
Fine Arts Youth Academy uses the arts as a vehicle to involve youth in self-awareness
of their own creativity. Arts Express believes that when youth are taught self-expression,
they can then experience personal success and positive response from an audience,
which encourages the growth of self-esteem in youth and respect for youth by the
public. Through
this experience with the arts, the Academy strives to improve the quality of life
for all participants. The long-term goal of Arts Express is to provide arts education
for children throughout the summer months and after school during the school year. This
year, Arts Express hopes to enroll approximately 500 students in The Fine Arts
Youth Academy. The fees are purposefully kept low to make it accessible to all students. Recognizing that even this low tuition cost
is prohibitive for some Tucson families, Arts Express is committed to scholarship
a minimum of 20% of the students. Scholarships are given based on need with a
recommendation from a school administrator, teacher or arts specialist from the
student's school. The Fine Arts Youth Academy is under the direction of Dr. Joan
Ashcraft, Artistic Director of Arts Express and Director of Tucson Unified School
District Fine and Performing Arts. |
